On 18 December 2015 it was certified that Akureyri Hospital complied with the requirements of DNV GL’s International Accreditation Program for Hospitals. \nAkureyri Hospital provides general and specialized health care services\, which focus on emergency care and major specialty treatments. \nIt is one of two specialty hospitals in the country and plays a key role in civil protection. \nThe hospital is a teaching hospital and as a knowledge organization it takes pride in teaching and research in health care sciences.
